About

UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON

The University of Dayton (UD) was founded in 1850 by the Society of Mary (the Marianists), a group of visionary leaders who knew that consistent change was necessary for constant growth. The University has grown into a top-tier Catholic research university. UD students are bold thinkers and servant leaders who use their gifts and talents to make a positive impact on the world. More than 7,800 full-time undergraduates and 2,400 graduate and law students call UD "home," and their 89 percent retention rate shows that students love UD.

UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON: STABLE WALKER CHAIR
Innovative and Life Changing Solutions

UD: STABLE WALKER CHAIR

The purpose of the Stable Walker Challenge was to design a walker that is similar to, but more stable than the Merry Walker. A Physical Therapy Supervisor at the Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center has veteran patients with dementia that would benefit from a more stable mobility device. These types of patients tend to shake and tip the Merry Walker, and as a result, cannot be left alone without supervision for any length of time....

While Larry was serving in the Air Force, he was diagnosed with Retina Pigmentosa, a genetic disease that causes the degeneration of the retina. This degeneration ultimately causes blindness. Despite being blind, Larry is very active. He cycles runs, swims, and rows. In June, he hiked the Appalachian Trail....

UD: VOICE-ACTIVATED SHIFTING

QL+ engineering students from the University of Dayton were asked to design and build a Voice-Activated Shifting Device for QL+ Challenger, Tim Brown. The goal of this Challenge is to create a device that will allow Tim to use his voice to activate the derailleurs on his handcycle to shift gears. The device is lightweight, durable, weatherproof, portable, and simple to use....
