USF: GUTTER CLEANING ROBOT

Our Innovative and Life-Changing Solutions

Background: The Challenger is a 31-year-old Army Cav Scout who served with the 82nd Airborne Division, injured by IED in 2012. He sustained a left above the knee amputation, and right below the knee amputation.  He is married, has a three-year-old child and is very active. Cleaning gutters is a task he’d like to make easier. There are already devices that can aid in cleaning gutters, but they come with challenges. There is a pole that you can attach to a gutter cleaner, but that requires walking along the house as you clean. There is also a gutter cleaning robot, but that requires the user to climb a ladder. A device that potentially combines these two ideas could be a solution.

The problem:

The Challenger would like to have a motorized or robotic gutter cleaner. The first problem to address is getting the cleaner up to the gutters while remaining on the ground and not having to climb a ladder. A pole, a track, and/or a pulley system were some suggestions. The second problem to address is having the cleaner move through the gutters without requiring him to walk along with it. Something that is motorized with a remote control was a suggestion.

The Challenge: The challenge is to create a robotic gutter cleaner that is easily placed in the gutters and doesn’t require Stefan to walk around the house to use it.
