UD: SEAT FOR AFARI WALKER

Our Innovative and Life-Changing Solutions

Pineland Farms is a 5,000-acre working farm in New Gloucester, Maine that offers educational and recreational activities for visitors. As part of Pineland Farms, the Veterans Adaptive Sports & Training (VAST) Program offers disabled veterans a variety of sports and physical activities, including hiking using the Afari Walker. The Afari Walker is a walker for people with limited mobility that uses a three-wheel design to allow the person to stay upright and at eye level, as opposed to more traditional walkers. Unfortunately, there is not currently a seat on the Afari; veterans in the VAST program may use the Afari for multiple miles for hiking but will not have a place to rest while staying upright. The Challenge is to create a fold down or swing away seat that allows Afari users to rest but does not interfere with the Afari when it is in motion.
