Residual limb volume change is a serious issue faced byprosthetic users, causing discomfort throughout their day. To combat this, theteam designed an inflatable sleeve to sit between the user’s limb liner andprosthetic socket with separate air-bladder compartments for optimal fit andmultiple hoses that provide valves that can easily adjust the air volume in thecompartments with a hand pump throughout the day. Specifically, the sleeve isconstructed out of thin vinyl material, adhered via vinyl cement, and vinylhosing with Schrader valves to allow easy air control. This sleeve can not onlyimprove the quality of life for Chris with his below-knee prosthetic, butpotentially expand to a broader population of prosthetic-users and assist themall in combatting residual limb volume change and improving comfortability.Future plans for the project include inquiring feedback from Chris on thesleeves and making any adjustments accordingly in the Fall semester to helpfinish the project and finalize the solution.
