UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON

About Rose

Rose is a senior at the University of Dayton, majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Human Movements Biomechanics.   Rose and her teammates are working on the Stable Walker Challenge.  The goal of this Challenge is to provide the Challenger, the Dayton VA, a more stable walker/chair, for patients with severe dementia and mobility issues.  The successful completion of this Challenge will provide patients with a safe device that will give them the opportunity to be more active and have more mobility.

Question & Answer

Why did you choose your major? I went to a Women in Engineering camp at the University of Dayton before my senior year of high school. I was introduced to all the main disciplines of engineering. I chose Mechanical Engineering because of the wide variety of work that a mechanical engineer could do.

Describe your experience working with QL+ so far.  What is the biggest challenge?  What has been rewarding?  Working with QL+ has been great. The biggest challenge for us is that we do not have an individual Challenger for our project.  The most rewarding is that we will be able to create a walker for the VA that can be used to give their patients more freedom of movement.

What would you say to other students about QL+?  QL+ has a great mission and they have great projects that will help students in the design process.

What are your plans after graduation? I will be working a GE Appliances a Haier Company in Louisville, Kentucky.

What has been the proudest moment of your college career? Being able to apply things I’ve learned since day one at UD to real-world problems.

What three words best describe you? Motivated.  Friendly.  Dependable.
