About Osama

Osama Alowaidi is a Senior at the University of Dayton, scheduled to graduate in May of this year.  He is majoring in Mechanical Engineering and is working on the Stable Walker Challenger.  For this Challenge, the team was asked to create and build a more stable walker for use at the Dayton VA Medical Center.  The walker is for inpatient use and for patients who suffer from Dementia/Alzheimer's and mobility issues.

Question & Answer

Why did you choose your major? When I finished high school, I did not have plans for my future. My father talked to me and told he wanted me to be a Mechanical Engineer.  He suggested Mechanical Engineering because of my high grades in math and physics.  Also, I want him to be proud of me when I finished college.

Describe your experience working with QL+ so far.  What is the biggest challenge?  What has been rewarding?  I love working with QL+ because the project I’m working on will benefit people who have mobility issues. The biggest challenge is making a walker that will help the people who need it but to also make it affordable.

What would you say to other students about QL+? QL+ offers great projects for engineers.  The projects will help them learn more and be creative.

What are your plans after graduation? I plan to go back to my country and start my engineering career in one of the biggest oil companies in Saudi Arabia.

What has been the proudest moment of your college career?

My proudest moment was choosing to be an engineer.  I know this choice will make my parents proud and happy for what I've achieved.

What three words best describe you? Sociable.  Helpful.  Kind.
