Our Challenger is an Army Veteran who fractured his neck between C5-C6 in a car accident and does not have use of his legs or full use of his hands. He is not able to move himself around in his bed without using railings. He currently uses a homemade railing, which is made of PVC pipe. The challenge is to design and build a functioning bed rail for home use. The bedrails need to be strong enough to allow him to move around in bed; they need to be a designed to allow him to use his wrist to help him roll over (does not have great grasp). He is able to use his limited mobility and strength in his arms; the rails need to be on both sides of bed; they must be adjustable and collapsible so he can fold it down when not in use; they must be easy to clean; and, they must be visually appealing.
