QL+ Founder Named Cal Poly Engineering Honored Alum
News Release – Monday October 21, 2009.
On October 16, the Cal Poly Alumni Association hosted their annual Awards and Banquet ceremony, honoring alumni from each of the six academic colleges. On Saturday, the College of Engineering presented Quality of Life Plus (QL+) Chairman, Jon Monett, with the 2009 Honored Alumni Award.
After a distinguished 26-year career with the CIA, alumnus Jon Monett found a way to pay back both his alma mater and the men and women who serve their country. He founded Cal Poly's QL+ Laboratory, a multidisciplinary facility that will generate research, development, and innovation of technology to improve the quality of life of those injured in the line of duty. Monett's visionary gift is one of the reasons he received the Honored Alumni Award, the highest honor bestowed upon Cal Poly alumni by the university's Alumni Association.
In founding the QL+ Laboratory, Monett hopes to establish "an important center where not only regular students but also military veterans will get involved in developing meaningful products and techniques to improve lives."
