McLean, September 14, 2009: On Sunday, September 13, staff from the Quality of Life Plus Program (QL+) ran and walked in the 5th annual Super H 5K in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia. The QL+ team, comprised of staff members, spouses and their children, completed the race on a crisp and inspired Sunday morning alongside other wheelchair, runner, walker, and modified cycle entrants. The race, which raises money for the National Rehabilitation Hospital’s BlazeSports Club for people with physical disabilities, is sponsored by Sport and Health Clubs. Other sponsors include Chicken Out, Darren Star Productions, MetroStar Systems, TriUnion Express and Paralympic Sport Washington D.C.
The event is a “run, walk, wheel” that invites anyone to participate in any way that they are able. Last year, the event raised about $40,000 for BlazeSports, which was used to purchase equipment for their National Rehabilitation Hospital facility. BlazeSports provides a range of sporting programs for physically disabled people of all ages, including wheelchair basketball, soccer, sled hockey, quadriplegic rugby and various sports clinics. The BlazeSports program works closely with military hospitals like Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Hospital in Bethesda to stage sports programs for injured veterans.
