Introducing Quality of Life Plus

  • Do you want to help improve the quality of life of our nation's wounded heroes?
  • Are you or a loved one a military veteran, first-responder or civil servant with a service-related injury that hampers your ability to live, work or play?
  • Are you ready to return to the workforce but concerned that your service-related injury may limit your opportunities?
  • Would a new assistive device allow you to again enjoy leisure activities such as fly fishing, running or snowboarding?

Quality of Life Plus (QL+) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created to foster and generate innovative technology to overcome everyday challenges.

We accept challenges from wounded military veterans, first-responders and other public servants injured in the line of duty. These challenges become projects at our state-of-the-art QL+ Laboratory, located at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo, Calif. By harnessing the exceptional creative and engineering skills of students and faculty at Cal Poly, QL+ succeeds in developing innovative solutions that help our nation’s heroes to live, to work and to play.

Our Work

What is a QL+ Challenge?

A QL+ Challenge is a physical limitation or restriction caused by injury or disability that can be mitigated through the development of a new assistive device by the QL+ team. QL+ serves military veterans, first responders and public servants injured in the line of duty.

The QL+ program welcomes challenges from individuals, family members, caregivers and the broader disabled community.

Ways to Give

Welcome USAA Members!

Much like USAA and its 7.2 million members and their families, QL+ applauds you for answering the call to duty. We know all too well that service to our country has many inherent risks. Thousands of men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform have sustained life-changing injuries while in the line of duty.

These wounded warriors have inspired QL+ to challenge some of our brightest young people and educators—top-notch engineering students and faculty at Cal Poly—who are combining their creativity and their engineering knowledge to develop innovative solutions that help our nation’s injured heroes overcome the limitations of their disabilities so they can live a better quality of life.
