Award recognizes organization’s contribution to Veteran care and rehabilitation
MCLEAN, VA (December 22, 2011) – The Quality of Life Plus (QL+) Program was honored to receive an Opportunity Seal of Approval from First Lady of Virginia, Mrs. Maureen McDonnell, at a special luncheon, held December 16, 2011, in Richmond, VA.
Part of the First Lady’s Initiatives Team Effort (FLITE), the Seal of Approval recognizes the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit’s contribution to a Commonwealth of Opportunity for Military Families.
“I hope to bring attention to the life-changing work being done by the many selfless people and groups around Virginia,” Mrs. McDonnell said about the FLITE Program, now in its second year. The 25 initiatives chosen for recognition in 2011 “are providing opportunities, hope and caring …” she added, “… and are making significant contributions across the Commonwealth to make it a better place to live, work and raise a family.”
The QL+ Program was founded in 2009 by McLean resident, Jon Monett; a US Air Force Veteran, retired senior executive with the CIA, and successful businessman. At the QL+ Laboratory at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo, CA, multidisciplinary teams of students work under the guidance of distinguished faculty members to research and develop prostheses and other innovative assistive technologies to improve the quality of life of active-duty and Veteran members of the military, intelligence services, first responders and other public servants injured in service to America.
